Kyle Brayton, Robert Mida appointed to Chelsea boards by City Council

Both the Chelsea Planning Commission and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will have new members when the boards meet later this month.

The Chelsea City Council unanimously approved Kyle Brayton as the newest member of the Planning Commission and Robert Mida as a new member to the DDA.

Both appointments took place at the Chelsea City Council meeting that took place on Monday, Jan. 4 via Zoom.

Brayton, an engineer with Consumer’s Energy, has previous experience serving on the Pine River Township (MI) Planning Commission and has lived in Chelsea for about 10 years. His term ends on June 30, 2021.

The Planning Commission is expected to hold a regular meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. via Zoom followed by a joint work session with the City Council on Monday, Jan. 25 at 7 p.m. via Zoom to discuss revisions to the city’s Zoning Ordinance.

Mida is the manager of Ugly Dog Distillery, a long-time Chelsea resident and a Chelsea High School graduate. His term ends December 2023.

The DDA will hold its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 21 at 7:30 a.m. via Zoom.

In addition, the City Council unanimously approved an amendment to the DDA bylaws that reduces the number of members on the DDA board from nine to seven people, which include the mayor and six additional members who resident in the DDA District.

The request for a reduction in board membership follows a unanimous vote of the DDA board in December, 2020.

As a reminder, the Chelsea City Council has seven elected members for the entire city and the DDA District is a much smaller area with a limited number of people who are eligible to serve on the board.
