Registration is now open for two Huron River Watershed Council (HRWC) photography workshops, which will take place on May 11-12 and on Oct. 19-20.
Local professional photographers Michael Seabrook and Marc Akemann will lead two consecutive half-day sessions, covering the basic techniques needed for taking great nature photos—obtaining correct exposures, controlling the depth-of-field, making sharper photos, customizing your camera to do what you want it to, and more.
Participants will get hands-on experience practicing tips and tricks while shooting in the field at two different locations along the Huron River.
Special guest speaker, world-renowned photographer and local Ann Arbor resident, Howard Bond, will share his experience photographing nature in the Huron River watershed.
Seabrook has been an avid photographer for almost 20 years. He has led workshops for the Leslie Science Center Raptor Program and taught countless private photography lessons. Being employed at Huron Camera keeps him aware of new cameras, lenses and technologies. He loves photographing native Michigan orchids, dragonflies, waterfalls, etc.

Akemann, born in The Hague in 1956, has been photographing since he discovered the work of his uncle, pioneering Dutch nature and landscape photographer Fred Hazelhoff, in the summer of 1972. Between then and now he has been part of several photo exhibitions (solo & shared) and book projects and is a working professional photographer in the Ann Arbor area.

Bond earned a BS in music from Bowling Green State University, Ohio (1953), and both an MA in Music (1958) and an MS in Mathematics (1961) from the University of Michigan.
His photographs are in the collections of more than 30 museums in the U.S. and Europe, and he has had over 60 one-man and 40 group exhibitions. The recipient of a Michigan Council for the Arts Creative Artist Grant, he has published two books and 23 limited edition portfolios of prints. His educational activities include 24 years of writing for Photo Techniques magazine and 34 years of teaching workshops that have been attended by over 2000 photographers from 5 continents. Howard will share his experiences photographing and exploring the natural areas throughout the Huron River Watershed with his own words and wonderful black & white photographs.

Come prepared to learn something new and to walk away with some great images of the Huron River. Participants should bring a camera that allows them to manually set the shutter speed and aperture. Maximum registration for both classes is 20 participants.

Each workshop costs $120 for the two consecutive half-day sessions, and HRWC members pay only $100.
Class instruction will take place at NEW Center, 1100 N. Main in Ann Arbor and at various locations along the Huron River.
