The Lima Township Board of Trustees met on Monday, Oct. 13 in front of an audience of about a dozen people.

A public hearing concerning a proposed Verizon telecommunications tower near the intersection of Dexter-Chelsea and Fletcher Roads will take place during next month’s regularly scheduled board meeting on Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Lima Township Hall.

Township Treasurer Nanette Havens announced that the summer taxes have been wrapped up, and there are approximately 80 outstanding bills, or about 4 percent of the total number of properties in the township.

The Board of Trustees unanimously approved a motion to “grant the Thornton Farms Condominium Association request to allow law enforcement agencies to enforce the Michigan Motor Vehicle code, in and upon their property,” and the township will provide a letter to Thornton Farms.

Work has begun on the interior of the new Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) substation, located on Jackson Road, just west of Lima Center Road. Work on the exterior is expected to start soon, and Township Supervisor Craig Maier said that he hopes the substation to be operating “by the time the snow flies.”

In other news, Havens, the Lima Township representative on the Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) board, reported that there is no longer a market for recyclable glass.

There will be a public hearing concerning a proposed amendment to the fence ordinance on Monday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at the township hall.
