What road projects to pursue in the township was the focus of the Lima Township Board at its April 11 meeting. Prior to the meeting, members of the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) spoke with the board about potential projects.

Lima Township has a $170,000 budget for road work and no shortage of possible projects. However, after talking about which projects would be priorities, the board voted 5-0 to table any action on approving any contracts with the Road Commission until the board’s May meeting to allow more time to study the projects and the costs.

The board unanimously approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance about cemeteries, as per a recommendation by the planning consultant and the planning commission. The provision in the ordinance allows religious organizations in the township to own their own cemeteries.

In other action, the board voted 4-1 (Greg McKenzie voted no) for Duane Luick to be appointed as the Chelsea Area Construction Authority‘s alternative board member. He replaces Rich Bareis, who died in February, for the remainder of his term.

McKenzie expressed concern because Luick is a contractor and might have a conflict of interest, but Supervisor Craig Maier supports Luick in the role and said, “I think a contractor can have a lot of good input.”

In other action, the board unanimously approved paying WAVE (Western-Washtenaw Area Value Express) $2,000 for services rendered to township residents during fiscal year 2016-2017.
