There will be an old time maple sugar festival at the Discovery Center on March 21 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

It’s time for that traditional rite of spring – tapping maple trees.  Enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Chelsea Alehouse from 8-11:30 a.m. , and then head over to the Discovery Center to learn how maple syrup is made.

There will be guided walks that will show various methods of collecting sap and how it is boiled down to make syrup.  Watch a film about the process and see antique equipment for making syrup on display from the Waterloo Farm Museum.

Maple products will be available for purchase as well.

The Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center is at 17030 Bush Road in Sylvan Township.

Contact the center at 475-3170 for more information.

  1. Check out H & H Sugarbush on 52 south of town. Open house this weekend. Tours. See the operation in action. They’re boiling the sap! I learned that they are the largest maple syrup operation in Washtenaw County.
