Mark your calendar: Cool programs at the Senior Center

Susan Barb sent a list of cool programs planned for the Chelsea Senior Center this month. Check them out.

  • Aug. 7: Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate  from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Do you have something you value and would like to pass on to a family member or friend?  Join Mary Ann Snider as she shares some important tips to keep in mind when passing on cherished items to family members.

Feel free to bring along such an item and share why it is important to you. This program is free.

  • Aug. 8, 15, 29: The Sandwich Generation:  Helping Our Parents with Their Health Care Decisions from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

This series will explore the challenges involved in assisting our parents as they make decisions regarding wellness, insurance, legal
issues and healthcare.  Topics covered include finding a balance between care giving and pleasure, long-distance care giving, disagreements between siblings, and more. This program is free.

  • Aug. 14: Chilled Garden Soups: Garden to Table Cooking Series in partnership with Chelsea Community Kitchen, noon.

Peter di Lorenzi will offer participants tasty, healthy and low cost soup ideas.

  • Aug. 20: Ice Cream Social, 12:30 p.m. 

Join us for ice cream and a performance by Sam Slomovits of the well-known musical group Gemini, who will be performing along with his daughter Emily. Sponsored by American 1 Credit Union.

  • Aug. 22: Love, Lure and Lore of the Clothesline, 12:30-1:30p.m.

This fun presentation and display of laundry nostalgia by Anne Lawrence, will revive memories of simpler times when laundry was hung to dry outdoors.  There will be laundry poetry, personal stories, and lots of sharing, plus the opportunity to view Anne’s collection up close. This program is free.

  • Aug. 23:  Art For Life:  How to Paint a Fabric Tote Bag, 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Learn the art of fabric painting with acrylics.  Participants will be guided through all steps of fabric painting to complete a personalized,
hand-painted bag.  No special skills required. This class is offered in partnership with Veo Art Studio and Chelsea Center for the Arts. Cost:  $22 members/$25 nonmembers.

All programs are held at the Chelsea Senior Center, 512 Washington St. in the Washington Street Education Center and are open to
everyone. To register, call 475-9242.
