Mary Picklesimer, who for the last 22 years has been a familiar and always smiling face in the Chelsea City Offices, was honored Tuesday night with a proclamation in honor of her retirement.
The utility billing clerk and deputy treasurer said, “I’ve seen a lot of people come and go, but I’m pleased at the direction that the city is going.”
Over and over, Picklesimer was described as being incredibly helpful, hardworking and always having a smile on her face, by the many people who weighed in on her career with the city and her imminent departure.
She was honored with a proclamation on Tuesday, March 26 at the Chelsea City Council meeting, which highlighted her many years of service to the city that began around Halloween 1990 and will end on Friday.
Mayor Jason Lindauer recalled her many long days in the utility department and the countless phone calls and people she had assisted throughout the years — working first for the village and then for the city.
“I echo the sentiments of so many people,” Lindauer said. “People like Mary leave the city in a much better place than when they arrived.”
Council Member Frank Hammer said, “Mary started working two weeks before I was on the City Council.”
The thank you’s continued throughout the meeting for the exemplary job Picklesimer has done for the city and its residents.
“It’s been a pleasure to work in the community in which I was born and raised,” she said, adding, “I’m also glad to see the new police building before I go.”
Police Chief Ed Toth said anytime he needed something done for the police department, Picklesimer was always there to handle it both quickly and efficiently.
City Manager John Hanifan called Picklesimer “a great and wonderful person who was always very calm in an office full of wingnuts. We’ll truly miss you.”
