Meet Nia-Avelina Aguirre, the new naturopathic doctor in town

Wine, Women and Shopping on Saturday provides people with a great chance to meet the new doctor in town – Nia-Avelina Aguirre.

She’s a board certified naturopathic doctor, who can provide you with natural health therapies to help quiet those aggravating health concerns. Plus, she has a BS degree in Exercise Science and Sports Medicine.

She’s been in the natural health, fitness and wellness profession since 1983 and is a certified Medicinal Herbalist, a Natural Health Therapist and a Natural Health Educator.

So from food choices to exercise, herbal and energy therapies, Aguirre combines a lengthy health consultation with almost 30 years of experience in the field to help people with natural remedies for getting past sickness and concentrating on wellness.

She can assist people with many health concerns from cold prevention, skin conditions, digestive issues to diabetes, she says.

During the initial consultation, she’ll get “the whole picture of your health concerns,” then develop a natural program that addresses your most urgent needs.

She says she uses “all natural products and food-based therapies because people love to eat,” adding, “Everything in moderation.”

In fact, she says, she knows her weaknesses are donuts and ice cream and she indulges in them, because these once-in-a-while treats can be balanced with other foods such as fruits and salads and vegetables.

Whether your health concerns are physical, mental or emotional, she can design a program that will consist of safe, natural, non-drug and non-toxic options that will begin the process of getting you feeling better, she says.

Aguirre wants people to be healthier, but at the same time step away from the guilt of having that forbidden yummy something-or-other. She finds out what people like to do and what they like to eat and helps them put together a plan that leads to better health.

And, she says, she’s not going to give people 20 things to do at one time. “I simplify it.”

From yoga to bodywork therapies to better eating and food supplements, Aguirre can find  “non-drug and non-toxic options for health, healing and prevention,” she says.

Her diverse background includes work in public and private schools, universities, hospitals, businesses, non-profits and private clients.

And, the certified herbalist sees clients of all ages with all sorts of health issues. Special afghan inside the therapy room.

Inside her cozy Sylvan Building office at 114 N. Main St. in Suite 12, Aguirre sells supplements, gives health consultations, provides personal training, and offers strategies for better health that do not include pricking the skin or taking drugs.

“It’s food-based first,” she says. “I educate people about that,” – what to eat and what foods can help their bodies perform at their optimum.

An initial consultation is about $125 and it includes whatever supplements Aguirre recommends.

This month she plans specials on back-neck-shoulder massages to help people prevent stress and tension, pain, stiffness or numbness. She will also offer personal training for the holidays to help you trim and tone your abs, torso, arms, buns and legs.

In December, she will offer a special on a calming message as well as personal training for the holidays to help offset all the sweet goodies and extra calories from party nibbling.

So, take the time to stop by her office from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and learn what naturopathic medicine can do for you. Aguirre can be reached at 734-883-7513 or at [email protected].
