New Lima Township hall, fire station conceptual drawings expected soon

Lima Township Hall

By Lisa Carolin

Conceptual drawings that would include putting two buildings, a township hall and a fire station, on the Lima Township property where Lima Township Hall is located, will soon be prepared by Midwestern Consulting.

That’s what Lima Township Supervisor Craig Maier told the board at its Nov. 13 meeting.

He said that the “idea” is in the very early stages, but that Midwestern Consulting reports it would be possible to fit a 6,000-square-foot town hall facility as well as a 3,000-square-foot fire station facility along with two driveways on the property.

As for the existing town hall, Maier said, “It could be moved, sold, or demolished.”

As far as any remediation on the asbestos outside of the township hall building and the high radon level in the basement of the building, Maier reported that he has only received one bid on each and is waiting for more bids.

The board unanimously approved a fee schedule amendment, which means that a $300 per meeting fee would be imposed on pre-construction and pre-development meetings that require the attendance of those paid hourly rates including the zoning administrator and the planning consultant.

The board also voted on a resolution to authorize a fee of 30 cents per tax parcel when it comes to tax roll download requests.

Also approved was a motion to take no further action on adopting E1 and E2 benefits for retirees as per the MERS COLA (Municipal Employees’ Retirement System Cost-of-Living Adjustments) report. Maier said he didn’t see the benefit to the township, which would have to increase the current $5,500 monthly payment to over $16,000.

Board of Trustees 2018 meeting dates were also approved and will continue to be on the second Monday of every month.
