The annual Harvest Art Market will take place on Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Silver Maples of Chelsea.

The best little art market around featuring a “market mix” of great art, including glass, mixed media, pottery, fiber arts, folk art, jewelry, photography… and so much more. Featured artists include Cheryl Green, Susan Falcone, Linda Wurtzel, Michele Friss, Sandra Somers, and Sarah Brunette’s ACME Market.

Today’s focus is on Grass Lake glass artist Kelly Elliott, who began making beads in 1997 and before she knew it she was creating jewelry. And then fusing smaller pieces, but before she knew it, the lure of creating larger pieces and using different techniques took over.

While she still makes beads, her work is primarily fused glass pieces – vases, plates, bowls, and some decorative pieces.

She says she has a “serious fascination” for hot glass and the various techniques that can be accomplished with it. Right now she’s working on a large panel for a living room.

Elliot has her wares for sale at Harmony Glassworks in Harmony CA, as well a variety of art fairs and on her website. In 2014, she won Best in Category, University of Michigan Health System Employee Art competition.

By day, she’s an advanced information developer for Siemens PLM; by night, she’s finishing my master’s degree in Instructional Design for Online Learning. In her free time, she’s married and raised three young men, now 24, 22, and 20 years old.
