Publisher’s message: Chelsea Update’s place in the community

Almost every time I head out into this community, someone stops me to say thank you for publishing Chelsea Update and tells me that this little publication has become their primary source for local news.

“We don’t know what we’d do without you.”

Or, “You’re everywhere. I don’t know how you do it.”

Day after day, I head back home and vow to do an even better job of bringing readers all the news that’s fit to print about Chelsea. It’s this community’s support and appreciation of my efforts that keeps me going seven days a week and for that I am so thankful.

I could not do this without everyone and the support that comes in many ways — a simple thank you, a news tip or information, an ad or a donation. And, although I am thankful every day to be able to make a living doing what I love to do with Chelsea Update, I hope that folks will continue to show their support of my efforts as the holidays get into full swing.

Last year, I came home from covering a story and found a ham on my front porch and on another day, there was a turkey. (To this day, I still do not know who dropped them off, but they sure arrived at the perfect time and made my holidays very special.)

Another day, I was looking at a large cloth bag at CVS — the perfect size to tote all my dog training gear when I go to competitive puppy class once a week. A community member came up the aisle and began talking to me about Chelsea Update. While she was talking, I put the bag back on the shelf, and asked why I’d done so. I explained that as a small business owner, I had to watch my pennies. With that, she grabbed the bag I was looking at and said, I’ve been meaning to send you a donation, so let me buy it for you.

The next week, that bag went to dog class with me and has been going every week since then.

A huge thank you to the following people who have made recent donations to Chelsea Update. I am so, so grateful.
