Publisher’s message: Sunday, Aug. 26

Square dancing Saturday evening in the Multi-Purpose Arena.

I hope you enjoyed Chelsea Update’s extensive 75th Annual Chelsea Community Fair coverage this week. It was “all fair, all the time” for me, and although I am totally exhausted, it was the most fun I’ve ever had as a reporter/photographer/publisher/judge.

What an honor to be asked to judge not just one, but two, competitions this week — baked goods and fair floats. The people in the Chelsea community are so clever and creative, I had a blast.

I hope all of you will bake or make or grow or sew or create something you are proud of and enter it next year for everyone to see. Being both a participant and a spectator at the fair just doubles the fun.

Although this year’s fair has come to a close, don’t forget to pick up your still exhibit items from the Green Barn, and if you were a prize winner, stop by the fair office to get your premium checks. The office will be open between 9 a.m. and noon today, Aug. 26.

As a one-woman show, I was not able to cover all the amazing activities that took place this week at the fair, but I did my best to get to as many as possible.

So please. while it’s still fresh in your mind, let me know what you liked and didn’t like about Chelsea Update’s coverage of the fair, and what you’d like to see me do differently next year. I’ve already started a list of my own, but I want to add your ideas to it.

I took close to 1,000 or more photos this week and plan to put together a series of photo galleries from each day, so stay tuned for more moments in time from this milestone anniversary this week.

Please keep all the positive community spirit that’s generated by the fair alive in your hearts year-round. The community fair is one of the many things that makes Chelsea such an amazing small town and a great place to call home.

Lastly, don’t forget that today at 11:30 a.m. St. Paul United Church of Christ and First Congregational United Church of Christ invite everyone to a special, casual outdoor worship service with a BBQ to follow. This might be the perfect way to end fair week with a new sense of togetherness, give thanks and keep that sense of community going strong.

  1. Lisa, Thamk you for your coverage of the fair. It was great to see so many great photos and stories about all of the events. Keep up the great work. I know there are lots in this community that appreciate all of your time and talent. – Rick
