Recent obituaries: Tressie Lea Preston, Kathleen Ruth Smith-Klem

Tressie Lea Preston who lived at Wellbridge of Pinckney in Michigan passed away Nov. 18, 2020, at Arbor Hospice in Saline, Michigan.

She would have turned 93 on her Dec. 1 birthday.

Tressie was born in Elkview, WV, to Alda and James Cooper and was the 10th of 12 children.

In 1949, she married Charles Everett Preston and they spent most of their life together in Bridgeport, WV. Simpson Creek Baptist Church was a central focus of their life and Tressie enjoyed sewing.

Survivors are her daughter, Rebecca Preston Tisch, and husband, Randy, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and granddaughter, Kathryn Tisch Shah, and her husband, Neal, of Rayleigh, NC. Tressie is predeceased by her husband, Charles, and daughter, Mary Sue Preston, of Charleston, WV.


Kathleen Ruth Smith-Klem of Chelsea formerly of Trenton and Lincoln Park, MI, age 92, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 in Ann Arbor.

She was born April 26, 1928 in Van Wert, Ohio, the daughter of Ralph and Nellie Ruth (Harrison) Armstrong.

Kathleen graduated from Lincoln Park High School, and earned her Bachelors and Masters in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She taught in the Lincoln Park School district in Elementary and for the learning disabled until 1985. Kathleen loved to golf at the Westshore Golf Club in Grosse Isle. She enjoyed Euchre, bridge, playing cards in general, and clothes shopping. Kathleen was complimented by all on her beautiful clothes. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends.

A memorial service will be held in the Spring of 2021. Burial will take place at Michigan Memorial Park.
