John Lewis Patoros of Ann Arbor, age 82, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Saline Evangelical Home.
He was a lifelong resident of Ann Arbor and was born on March 30, 1933, the son of Louis and Mary Patoros. John graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1951 and two years later married the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Pateck.
John served in the military from 1953 to 1955 and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1956 he was hired by Michigan Consolidated Gas Company as a service installer and later became a supervisor of service and meter reading, retiring in 1988 after 32 years. He also was owner of and operated J.P. Vending Business in those same years. He was also a retired member of the Law Enforcement and Industrial Security Association of Washtenaw County where he received the highest award in 1992 for valor.
John was also an amateur radio operator and for 11 years took messages from soldiers in the Vietnam War to their parents. He spent many hours at this. John was a very caring man who was always there to help anyone in need. He liked to play cards and board games as well as having coffee with his friends at Meijer on Jackson Road. He was a die-hard Wolverine football fan and his last sentence stated how much he loved being at Washtenaw Dairy hanging out with the gang.
