Reminder: Chelsea City Council July 23 nominating petition deadline approaching

There are three, 4-year seats up for grabs in November and two of the three current Council Members plan to run for re-election.

The deadline for filing nominating petitions and affidavits of identity is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23. 

Nominating Petitions and Affidavits of Identity will be accepted at the City Clerk’s Office, 305 S. Main St. Chelsea, for the purpose of nominating candidates for the following offices:

(3) CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS – 4-year term

A minimum of 15 valid signatures from registered electors of the City are required.  Nominating Petitions are available at the City Office. Affidavits of Identity are available at the City Office and at www.city-chelsea.org. Click on ‘Clerk’ then ‘Election Information & Forms’. 

State Election Law (168.737a as amended under P.A. 87 of 2006) requires write-in candidates to file a “Write-In Candidate Declaration of Intent” with the City Clerk by 4 p.m., Friday, Oct. 25. This form is available at the City Office and www.city-chelsea.org.

Votes for write-in candidates who fail to file a Declaration of Intent by the specified time will not count.

Official Declaration of Intent forms are available at the City Clerk’s office during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
