Save the dates for these Monitor Base Ball Club’s matches

The Chelsea City Council unanimously approved a request by the Monitors Base Ball Club and the Chelsea Area Historical Society to use Timbertown for special matches on the following days:

  • Sunday, April 28
  • Saturday, June 1
  • Sunday, June 23
  • Saturday, July 27
  • Sunday, Aug. 4
  • Saturday, Aug. 24

These vintage baseball matches last about two hours and generally begin at 1 or 2 p.m.

City Manager John Hanifan reminded the City Council that approval for the field by the City Council is part of the city’s use of public property by private individuals.

Jon Van Hoek, captain of the base ball club and vice president of the Historical Society, said the team is starting its third year and has hosted about 10 events to date.

These are free family events and on June 1, the Historical Society also plans a community picnic around the vintage baseball match. Also planned is an on-site museum of some of the Historical Society’s historical artifacts, Civil War reenactors, quilting and wool-spinning demonstrations, antique cars and a demonstration on how to care for antiques, live music and kid’s games.

The Historical Society expects between 100-200 people to attend the June 1 event.
