Science Night Feb. 22: Chelsea Kiwanis learns about PTO event

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard a presentation from the Chelsea PTO‘s Meg Gower and Jennifer Fischer.

Gower gave an exciting outline of hands-on activities that will be featured at Science Night, Friday, Feb. 22, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center.

The PTO alternates Geography Night with Science Night every other year with these programs designed for children 2 to 12 years old and their families.

This year’s theme celebrates the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Middle and high school students will staff tables of the activities. Stations include: modelling planets with Play-Doh, experiments with light and shadow, magnification, “delicious” phases of the moon, and alien eyes.

Four robotic teams will be demonstrating their skills and samples of items made with the library’s 3-D printer will be shown. There will also be a scavenger hunt.

Monday, we will be celebrating Valentine’s Day a few days early with our sweethearts for a special dinner instead of our regular meeting.

On Feb. 18, club members will resume regular meetings. The group looks forward to having a visit from the two Chelsea High School students who attended the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girls State program in Lansing last summer. Kiwanis supported the students.

Chelsea Kiwanis meets each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to enjoy our speakers and learn about Kiwanis.
