Silver Maples of Chelsea will host the “C.A.A.D.Y. Corner Quilters” in Gallery 100, through Feb. 28.

The exhibit consists of close to 20 quilts created through community quilting and then donated to charities. They are beautifully done, reflecting a wild variety of patterns, colors, and sizes.

The quilters, who hail from Chelsea, Ann Arbor, Dexter, and Ypsilanti – hence the acronym, have been creating quilts since 2008. They now meet at the Chelsea Senior Center, but for many years met in members’ homes. As the group grew, evolved and began focusing on creating charity quilts, they decided a different location would be more practical.

In the exhibit, there are no identification tags to indicate who made a quilt as it is a collaborative effort. While the top of the quilt may be made by one individual, the back, the quilting, the binding are done by others. The fabric used is mostly from donations.

Each quilt is labeled: Made Especially For You by the C.A.A.D.Y. Corner Quilters.  Currently, the University of Michigan Bone Marrow Transplant Unit receives the majority, but Faith in Action and the St. Louis Center also have benefited from the quilters’ expertise.

Since 2008, they have given away over 200 quilts. In 2015, they were able to donated 56 quilts.

The “C.A.A.D.Y. Corner Quilters” exhibit is open to the public, Sunday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Silver Maples of Chelsea, 100 Silver Maples Dr.
