Sounds & Sights Festival adds community chalk art event

sounds and sights festival logo

The Sounds & Sights Festival committee has added a new community chalk art event to its line-up of activities on Saturday, July 27.

The art competition will take place from noon-4 p.m. and artists of all abilities and ages are encouraged to help transform the black asphalt of Middle Street into vibrant colors and works of art.

Professional chalk artists will demonstrate chalk art techniques while participants create Chelsea’s first “community quilt” on the ground.

All participants will be assigned a free, 5 foot x 5 foot space to showcase their work. Registration is not required, but is encouraged since space is limited.

So, reserve a spot in advance, by downloading the registration form here,  and submit it to [email protected] by July 1.

Spectators will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite piece of work, and a ‘People’s Choice’ award of $100 will be presented to the winner.

Professional artists interested in designing a featured 7 foot x 7 foot space and teaching techniques must complete an application by May 31, and selected artists will receive a stipend of $200.

For more information, contact the chalk art coordinator at [email protected] or call 734-474-9178.
