Monday, Oct.  31 was no typical Monday at South Meadows Elementary School. It was Halloween, and the school celebrated with Hallowfest.

Students could wear costumes to school and they began the day with a parade. They enjoyed a variety of activities through the morning, rotating from the gym, to dancing in the music rooms.

Teachers instructed them how to do the monster walk so that they could dance to the “Monster Mash” and the theme from “Ghostbusters”.

Aubrey Trent came dressed in a scary black costume as Maleficent. Alex Rogers was dressed as Yoshi from “Star Wars”, and Olivia Hancock came as a 1970s girl wearing bell bottoms and a multitude of bright colors.

Also spotted at South Meadows were cats and football players, princesses, Mickey Mouse, and Harry Potter.

Apples and caramel dip was the snack du jour in the cafeteria, and each classroom offered crafts.

Representatives from the Chelsea District Library read “The Widow’s Broom.” to students who visited the school library.

During the afternoon, students attended an assembly presented by Doug Scheer of Scheer Genius Assemblies.

“His fun-filled assembly focuses on Halloween safety tips and also shares a lesson on perseverance,” said Stacie Battaglia, South Meadow’s principal.
