State Rep. Gretchen Driskell (D-Saline) officially announced her campaign to run for re-election in the 52nd District today, according to a press release.

Driskell currently represents northern and western Washtenaw County, including Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Whitmore Lake, and Manchester. She serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee as well as the Commerce Committee.

Driskell is approaching the end of her first term in office during which she introduced bills to reform campaign finance laws, provide transparency for equal pay, and worked on developing a more robust broadband infrastructure in the district.

She held numerous townhall meetings on topics ranging from small business development, environmental challenges, and transportation funding.

Recently, she was awarded Legislator of the Year by the Michigan Chapter of the National Organization of Women.

Throughout her 25-year career in public service, Driskell said she remains committed to improving the lives of every Michigander. She is looking forward to continuing her distinguished service to her state by embracing bipartisanship in order to solve Michigan’s most pressing issues, according to the press release.

“We need to work together to enable our communities to train, retain, and attract the most talented workforce possible,” Driskell said. “This means investing in our public education system. This means maintaining our transportation system. This means ensuring equal opportunity for women. This means implementing policies that grow our communities.”

To accompany her filing announcement, Driskell has also launched her 2014 campaign website, as well as a Facebook and Twitter account.

She’ll be holding her campaign kickoff on Wednesday, April 16, in Saline at Mangiamo Italian Grill from 6-8 p.m.

Former Congressman and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Mark Schauer will be the guest speaker at the event.
