Sylvan Township Supervisor Resigns

By Lisa Carolin

After submitting his resignation on April 19, 2021, Sylvan Township Supervisor David Brooks, who was elected in November of 2020, was absent from the Sylvan Township Board’s April 21 special meeting.

Sylvan Township Clerk Kathleen Kennedy was voted on by the remainder of the board to chair the April 21 meeting.

Kennedy expects to accept the resignation at the board’s May 4 meeting.

“Then we have 45 days to appoint someone until the midterm elections next year (2022), and then there will be a race to elect someone to fulfill until the end of the term in 2024,” said Kennedy.

Brooks wrote in an on Tuesday email, “As of 9:30 a.m. this morning, Monday 19, April 2021, I have resigned the position of Sylvan Township Supervisor. The last six months have been more frustrating than I could ever have imagined. At 79, I don’t have 3.5 more years to waste.”

At the special board meeting April 21, the Sylvan Township Board approved a development agreement as well as the master deed and bylaws for Chelsea Springs II, a 28-unit condominium site connected to Coliseum Drive. Danny Veri, general manager of Livonia Builders, hopes to start construction in May.

In other action, the board approved a dust control agreement with the Washtenaw County Road Commission.
