There’s still time to buy raffle tickets to help the Kiwanis International Eliminate project

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Kiwanis Club learned about the Chelsea School District’s preschool programs from Lisa Nickel last Monday.

She told members that by participating in preschool programs, data has shown children’s performance levels improve when they move on to elementary school.  She explained that there continues to be a need for scholarships for children whose families are financially unable to afford tuition.

Kiwanis has again contributed $2,000 to help out, joined by two members who made individual contributions.

In addition, there is still time to participate in the raffle to raise funds for the Kiwanis International Eliminate project.  A child suffers a painful agonizing death every 11 minutes from maternal and neonatal tetanus.  For $1.80, UNICEF can protect a woman and all her future children.  Tickets are one for $20 three for $50 and the drawing will be Aug. 31.

The winner will receive a week’s stay at a luxury villa in the Cayman Islands  for six people and $400 cash. Tickets will be available at the Kiwanis trailer during the Sounds and Sights Festival or at the Chelsea Community Fair from any Kiwanian.

This Monday will be our annual steak fry at the home of John and Marianne Knox.  Regular meetings at St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital dining room will resume July 27.
