Timbertown Improvements on the Horizon

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea Parks Commission unanimously approved conditional support for improvements to Timbertown at its Nov. 1 meeting.

Jeff Hardcastle, Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative board chair, told the commission that the plan is to fund a picnic shelter, play structure, pickleball courts, and a B2B trailhead with funding from the Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative and Washtenaw County’s Parks and Recreation Commission.

Members of the Chelsea Parks Commission signed up for two subcommittees: one regarding Timbertown’s needs, and the other for the restoration of the mosaic “The Pathway to Renewal”. They will be joined by city staff and community members.

More than 200 people responded to a recent survey about improvements to Timbertown. Play structure improvements, pickleball courts, splash pads, basketball courts, and bathrooms were among the leading requests.

Also at the Nov. 1 meeting, Chelsea’s new Community Development Director Adrianna Jordan introduced herself.

City Manager Roy Atkinson shared an update about the Main Street Park Alliance and said currently work is being done on soil samples and the condition of the site. In other news, Atkinson reported that the city did not receive the Connecting Communities Grant.

The Parks Commission will have a work session Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. Its next regular meeting will be on Dec. 6 at 9 a.m.
