The Chelsea District Library is proud to announce that Chelsea High School 2015 graduate Grace Menter has been named the first annual Youth Service Group Volunteer of the Year.

This new award honors one student with an exceptional record of service to the library during the previous summer and current school year.  Students who receive this award are given their own “Read” poster and bookmarks.

Edith Donnell, youth and teen librarian, and head of the library’s Youth Service Group, said in a press release that Grace “was the best of several excellent candidates for the award.”

“Grace Menter has been a wonderful volunteer at the library for the past six years,” Donnell said, adding, “but this past year she transcended the traditional YSG role to take on several major leadership positions during the summer and school year of 2014-2015. Grace assisted with the management of YSG over the summer that called for many hours of work. She was also Teen Advisory Board President for the duration of the school year. She surpassed all our expectations to receive this honor.”

“I’m humbled to be chosen and it makes me really happy to be appreciated like that,” Menter said in a press release.

The library announced the award at a special dinner for Youth Service Group members on May 28.

Additional YSG members at the event received certificates of appreciation for their volunteer service in the past year.

The Youth Service Group is a volunteer group that provides service to the community via hours of volunteering at the Chelsea District Library throughout the calendar year.

The YSG is for students age 12 and up or going into 7th grade.
