The Chelsea JV football team traveled to Ypsilanti and came home 4-0 with a 46-34 victory over the Grizzlies.
Things didn’t start well, as the Grizzlies raced out to an 18-7 advantage midway through the 2nd quarter. Momentum shifted when the Bulldogs converted a fake punt on a pass from Drew Anstead to Callum Krause, which led to a CHS touchdown.
After the Chelsea defense held Ypsi to a 3-and-out, Anstead hit Alex Vasquez on a 54-yard strike deep into Ypsilanti territory. Chris Roush scored on a 15-yard pass from Anstead to put CHS up 20-18 just before halftime.
The 2nd half scoring began when Harrison Green and Travis Frazier tackled the Ypsilanti punter on his own 2-yard line. The Bulldogs punched it in, but Ypsilanti scored on its next drive to tie the game at 26.
Chris Barnes made a huge interception to keep the game tied, and Cal Barrett scored on Chelsea’s next drive to put Chelsea ahead 32-26 with 8 minutes to play.
Then the fireworks began.
Cole Septer picked up an Ypsilanti fumble and scored to put Chelsea ahead 39-26, but that excitement was short lived as the Grizzlies returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to cut the lead to 39-34. Then
Chelsea put the game away on its next drive – a 5-minute, 55-yard effort that ended with an Anstead QB sneak.
Owen Nikischer sealed the victory with an interception on Ypsilanti’s last drive.
The victory moves the CHS JV to 4-0 with an important game against Adrian Thursday at home.
