Chelsea boys soccer traveled to Ypsilanti Lincoln on Thursday for another SEC White match-up.

Both Ypsilanti Lincoln and Chelsea were supporting Kicks for Cancer on the day wearing T-shirts printed up to help support the cause.

Chelsea coming off of a 9-0 mercy win over Adrian appeared to be fired up starting the game against Lincoln. Senior Nic Arons scored the first goal of the game for Chelsea in the 4th minute of play from a Campbell Fahle assist.

Only two minutes later, fellow senior Ethan French received a pass from Nic Arons and knocked his shot past the Lincoln goalkeeper. Junior Matt Klink got on the board twice in a row netting goals in the 11th and 15th minutes of play.  His second assisted by Senior Austin Gier.

Late in the half, sophomore Cullen Lindsay was tripped up in the Penalty Area.  Cullen, taking his first penalty kick of the season stepped up and knocked it past the Lincoln GK to take a 5-0 lead into the half-time break.

“This was a very good first half,” said coach Shawn Hayes. “We chose to attack with the wind at our backs to help us get off on the right foot in the game. We spoke about the importance of using that wind to our advantage in the first half because we knew we’d be playing into it in the second which only makes things more difficult on such a windy day.”

The boys took that early advantage and were able to continue to build on that in the second half.

The wind certainly slowed Chelsea’s attack down a bit at the start of the second half and appeared to help give Lincoln some momentum early on as they created a few chances of their own.  About 16 minutes into the half, Campbell Fahle again found Nic Arons for his second goal of the game off a corner kick. It wasn’t until the final 10 minutes of play when Chelsea scored their final two goals of the game.

An unassisted goal from Cullen Lindsay and the last one from Zach Skogheim off a rebound he collected and knocked in to finish the game with less than 4 minutes to play.

Chelsea moves to 11-3-2 on the season and travels to Ypsilanti Community Schools Tuesday to play the Grizzlies before playing host to Dexter on Thursday Oct 8 for Chelsea’s Senior Night and Future Bulldog Night. Come out and support the Bulldogs.
