Chelsea Figure Skating Club shines at 2018 Showcase Nationals

(Chelsea Update would like to thank coach Megan Salamon for the information in this story as well as some of the photos and several parents of the skaters for additional photos.)

Twelve local skaters from the Chelsea Figure Skating Club were among the 559 competitors from across the country who competed recently in Brighton in the 2018 Showcase National Championships.

The skaters competed in a variety of different fashions from individual events to duets, and even as two teams. Each team and duet placed within the top 10 in the nation, but it was the individual events where the Chelsea skaters really shined this year.

In the preliminary division, both Alex Davis and Sydney Brandt medaled in their initial round groups. Madison Majeske won her initial round group at the Pre-juvenile level, and Zoe Beekman medaled at the Intermediate Level.

The skaters increased their successes in the final rounds consisting of the top eight skaters at each level.

Beekman became the national silver medalist in the Intermediate Dramatic division.

Davis qualified for the final round in both of her individual events, where she was crowned national champion at the Preliminary Light Entertainment level, and took home the bronze in the Dramatic category.

Majeske also became a national champion in her category of the Pre-Juvenile Dramatic division.

Winning their divisions qualified Majeske and Davis to perform in the parade of junior champions at the end of the competition.

The Chelsea Figure Skating Club is incredibly proud of its skaters’ performances this year, and looks forward to building upon this platform for next year as skaters will head to Wenatchee, Wash. for the 2019 National Showcase Championships.
