The Chelsea girls Tennis team won the Chelsea quad on Saturday, winning every match but one and taking 31/32 points.

South Lyon East came in 2nd with 18 points, Pinckney came in 3rd with 16 points, Divine Child came in 4th place with 15 points.

The only loss of the day for Chelsea came at 1 singles against Divine Child.  “Katie Lee faced a tough opponent who is very good player. Katie certainly rose to the occasion but it wasn’t enough as Kohn proved to be the better player.”  Katie then went on to defeat the other two players at 1 singles, defeating SLE 6-0, 6-0 and Pinckney 6-3, 6-3.

Mackenzie Benning played very well for us today, winning all three matches. Benning has really begun to play smart tennis, she has been gaining confidence in her shot selection and it’s proving to be a great way for her to pick up some games.

At 3 singles Callie Brannon staged a brilliant comeback against Justine Lindquist of Pinckney. Callie was down 5-2 in the 2nd set but won the next five games to close out the match. Callie is also playing well right now, she’s had a great season for us at 3 singles so far and I expect this to continue as we move towards regionals.

At 4 singles, Anna Argento won her matches 6-2, 6-2 to also take 1st place in her flight.  Anna has also gained a lot of confidence as the season has gone on. We’re working on getting Anna to use her strengths throughout the match and to continue to outplay her opponent.

All of our doubles flights played great tennis today, sweeping the doubles flights.

At 1 doubles, Sam Jabara and Erin Koch d. Pinckney 6-1, 6-0 on their way to the title.  When Sam and Erin are playing at the top of their game they are very difficult to beat.  They are right now one of the top doubles teams in the state in our division, I have full confidence in their ability to beat most teams.

2 doubles won their flight, defeating SLE 6-2, 6-2, DC 6-2, 6-2, and Pinckney 6-0, 6-0.  The two Hannah’s (Moore and Schwippert) have really gelled now that they have some matches under their belts.  They’ve figured out what works best for them and have taken advantage of that.  I love watching the two of them play together, it’s as if they’ve played doubles together for years.

The 3 doubles team of Joy McCarthy and Carrie Williams won their flight by defeating DC 6-0, 6-1, SLE 6-0, 6-1, and Pinckney 6-2, 6-1.  3 doubles was probably the most dominate today, only losing 5 games the entire day. I think Carrie and Joy work very well together, they’ve played great for us all year at 3 doubles. Going into regionals they are right now the favorites to win the regional title which would be a 2nd straight year for both of them.

The 4 doubles team of Taylor Schrock and Alison Staelgrave also had a great day, d. Pinckny 6-1, 6-1, SLE 6-1, 6-1, and DC 6-2, 6-2.  These two are suddenly playing well as a team. They started the year as a brand new doubles team, and it took a few matches but they are now playing great. I think the win over Grosse Ile really gave them the confidence they needed. I look forward to watching them compete at regionals, they’ve turned into a fun doubles team to watch and their improvement has been great to see.

Overall, it was a great day for the girls, they played 3 matches this week, and downed Lincoln 8-0 and Adrian 8-0.

This week Monroe travels to Chelsea today, and Riverview comes to Chelsea on Thursday.
