Chelsea Kiwanis Club year in review part 2

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Continuing our year in review of Kiwanis committee expenditures, there are four final committees. The first four covered children, pre-natal to adulthood, and human and spiritual values.

Community Services is our fifth committee, which addresses both youth and adult needs. Last year, we sent $6,000 back to the community from this committee. Groups benefitting included Western Washtenaw Value Express, Chelsea Senior Citizens, Faith in Action, Chelsea Community Fair, Timbertown playground, and dinners to celebrate Chelsea Police and Firefighters and area farmers.

Fund raising is our sixth committee. We spent $9,000 on citrus fruit for our annual sale, $360 on peanuts and pretzels for our September fundraiser, $19,000 on food and supplies for our concession trailer, $8,000 on maintenance for the trailer, (fuel, licenses, repairs, etc.), and a $2,700 installment on a fund to replace our trailer at some time in the future.

Membership Growth, Education, and Retention is our seventh committee. Here we spent $3,600 in dues to Kiwanis International, insurance, the Kiwanis magazine, dues to the Michigan District of Kiwanis, and support for our lieutenant governor in our district (clubs in Washtenaw County).

Meetings, Activities, and Public Relations is our eighth committee. Here, we spent $13,000 on member and guest meals, and club administrative fees and supplies.

Our club maintains separate bank accounts for member income and expenses and for civic income and expenses. Only monies raised from members are spent for their benefit. All monies raised from others go back to the community.

On Monday, Jan. 11, the speaker will be Nancy Paul from Faith in Action, who will update the club on their efforts to serve the needy in the Chelsea and Dexter areas.

The meeting begins each week at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the meetings to learn about Kiwanis and click www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org for more information.
