Lima Township Board postpones Verizon wireless tower public hearing

The Lima Township Board met on Monday, Jan. 12, and postponed a scheduled public hearing about the proposed Verizon wireless communications tower. The tower is planned to be erected at 11483 Jackson Road, but will be accessible off Lima Center Road, south of Jackson Road.

Verizon has applied for a Special Land Use permit to erect the tower.

The Lima Township Planning Commission had questions for Verizon regarding the tower access drive, as well as fencing, and has received a revised site plan from the company. The Planning Commission will review the revised site plan, and a public hearing will be held immediately prior to its regular meeting on Monday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the Lima Township Hall.

In other news, Zoning Administrator Tom Caplis stated that there were 50 zoning permits issued in 2014 for nine new homes, as well as many pole barns and garages in the township.

Township Western Washtenaw Recycling Authority (WWRA) representative Nanette Havens reported that WWRA income increased $140,000 in the last year, and the amount of materials collected increased by 1,050 tons from 2013 to 2014.

Township Supervisor Craig Maier reported that progress on the Chelsea Area Fire Authority (CAFA) Lima Substation continues, but not as quickly as the board had hoped. Maier said that the design for the building’s interior is undergoing final approval, and will commence soon.

Maier also reminded residents that the next regularly scheduled CAFA meeting will be on Tuesday, Jan. 20 at 9 a.m. in the Chelsea City Council chambers in the new municipal building.
