May 1: Chelsea Kiwanis will hear about the library’s summer reading program

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

On Monday, May 1, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club will hear about the Chelsea District Library’s Summer Reading/Summer Learning Program from Library Director Lori Coryell and Teen Librarian Edith Donnell.

The kickoff will be a huge party on the library lawn Friday, June 16, from noon to 2 p.m. Children, teens, and adults can sign up and earn prizes all summer just by reading or listening to books.

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard a presentation about Chelsea Update, the community’s daily online news site, as it nears its fifth year in operation.

Publisher Lisa Allmendinger talked about the Wooly Mammoth story that helped the site top 100,000 hits over several days and how hard it is to be a journalist during these divisive times. Allmendinger also presented some of the top stories taking place in the Chelsea Community and answered questions about things going on in the area.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
