Oct. 24: Kiwanis to hear from Dave Brinklow

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Mark Your Calendars for Monday, Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. at Cole Funeral Chapel parking lot for the Chelsea Halloween Party. Kids of all ages can dress up in their best costumes and enjoy cider and doughnuts. Costume judging will begin at 5:45 p.m. and ribbons will be awarded in each age group.

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club  heard from Stephanie Willette, market manager from both of Chelsea’s farmers markets. She thanked us for supporting the Kiwanis Kid’s Tent at the Saturday markets this year.

The idea was to get children who were attending with their folks to learn about healthy food choices, while having a fun activity. Much of the success goes to Cally, who was located near the entrance and called out to kids to take part. She has experience working with young people and came up with many creative activities like mini greenhouses to start a garden, planting a Mr. Potato Head, a scavenger hunt around the market (talking to vendors), and matching fruits and vegetables with their seeds.

This Monday, the club will hear from Matt Pedlow from Chelsea High School. Kiwanis supports his yearly trip to the Civil War Battlefield in Gettysburg, PA with a group of students. He provides fascinating details about that week to club members from the yearly trip.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis.
