Publisher’s column: Chelsea Community Fair, all over (but the clean-up) until next year

See ewe next year at fair.
See ewe next year at fair.

By the time you read this, the last of the hay and straw will be swept out of the livestock barns.

The rides will have headed to their next location.

The Merchant Barn will no longer be filled with merchants and the last of the premium checks have been handed out.

In other words, the 79th annual Chelsea Community Fair has come to a close and the fair board is ready for a long end of summer’s nap. And after they have a chance to relax and recoup their energy, the all-volunteer board will meet and discuss the triumphs and the hiccups (there are always a few each year) and planning will begin for the 80th annual community event.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the extensive fair coverage provided by Chelsea Update for the fourth year in a row. It’s as much fun to provide the stories and photos as it is to plan improvements for the following year.

I’d like to again thank the fair board and especially the ladies in the office, for all of their help in providing my coverage.

This year, my family came to town for the fair parade. They came to Michigan to visit family and friends and to go to the U-M football opener, but they arrived in time to see the fair parade.

So, since I’ll have company all week, you’ll find just a few new stories each day while I spend time with them. And next week, I’ll be back at it with gusto — bringing you all the news that’s fit to post about Chelsea.
