Recent obituary: Laureta Elaine Boyer

Laureta Elaine Boyer of Chelsea, age 95, died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017 at the University of Michigan Hospital.

She was born Jan. 14, 1922 in Porter Township, Michigan, the daughter of Angus William and Laura Ann (Swinehart) Williams.

At the age of 14, Laureta delivered strawberries in downtown Detroit by herself. During WWII, she moved from Saginaw Valley to Chelsea, to work for Federal Screw in the Clocktower Building. Later, she worked for Applied Dynamics and Allen-Bradley Electronics. The electronics she worked on went to the Moon, with NASA calling her about one of the circuit boards.

Laureta was active with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Chelsea VFW. She helped start “Chelsea Days” in Hudson, Florida. Laureta enjoyed making large meals for family and friends in Chelsea and Florida. Her hobbies were quilting and crafts. In Florida, she enjoyed square dancing and flea markets. Laureta learned to use computers in her 80’s and early 90’s.

Services for Laureta and Lawrence are pending.
