The Chelsea Area Garden Club’s annual plant sale will take place on May 7 from 8 a.m.-noon at the Chelsea Community Fairgrounds.

It’s a great place to find high quality locally grown perennials, ornamental grasses, daylilies, shrubs and herbs.

“Plants are organized by type, including whether they thrive in shade or sun, to make shopping easier for novice and experienced gardeners find what they want,” says Mary Randolph.

She and Cathy Gillem, the other plant sale co-chair, lead fall and spring digs, where members collect and pot plants from members’ and friends’ gardens for the sale, which is held, rain or shine.

“We are proud of the quality of our plants and that we sell most for $5 or less,” Randolph says.  “Some rarer plants such as trillium and larger shrubs cost more.”

Proceeds from the plant sale are used for civic beautification and scholarships and grants for horticulture-related community projects.

“Come early for the best selection,” suggests Gillem.
