Gloria O’Quinn and Terri DeBottis jointly named SENIORITA Petunia.

“SENIORita” Petunia, the creation of the Chelsea Senior Center, raised $160 during the recent “Feed The Pig” fun contest that kicked off this year’s United Way of Chelsea’s fundraising campaign at a recent Chelsea Bulldog football game.

She was the “bacon and away” the most popular pig of the bunch.

Runner-up pig was WAVErly, a entry of the Washtenaw Area Value Express, which raised $88.56.

SENIORita Petunia’s pen was built by Jerald Chatfield. She was painted by Cathy Gillem and her tutu was made by the Chelsea Yarners. Her name was a joint effort of Gloria O’Quinn and Terri DeBottis. O’Quinn thought up her first name and DeBottis suggested the tutu clad pig’s last name.

The United Way of Chelsea’s agencies include Faith in Action, Chelsea Grace Clinic, the senior center, Washtenaw Area Value Express, Parents as Teachers, the Chelsea Rec Center, St. Louis Center, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts Heart of Michigan and Great Sauk Trail Boy Scouts.

Other pigs were the St. Louis Center’s entry that raised $37.55, PAT, the Parents as Teacher’s pig raised $23 and FIA, the Faith in Action pig was fed $20.25.

The United Way Piggies were Daisy with $7.30, Bulldawg with $9 and Dottie that raised $6.46.

The total collected for the evening was $352.12, said Teresa Zigman, chairman of the board, which was about $132 more than last year.

“For CUW, it was a great event to promote community awareness of the groups that we support in the Chelsea Community,” she said via email.

This year’s honorary chairmen for the 2012 United Way of Chelsea Annual Campaign are Cindy and John Mitchell.
