The Shareholders of CSB Bancorp, Inc. elected William B. Holmes to the Board of Directors at their Annual Meeting of Shareholders on April 8.

He was subsequently appointed to the Board of Directors of Chelsea State Bank, according to a press release.

“It is a great honor for me to welcome Bill to our Board of Directors,” said Chelsea State Bank President and CEO John Mann. “Bill is a notable business leader and comes from a long-standing family business that believes in supporting our local communities. Chelsea Milling Company and Chelsea State Bank, have been in business for over 100 years and it’s a tradition to have a Holmes on our board.  And I’m very familiar with Bill’s character as we have served together on the Board of the Purple Rose Theatre Co. since its inception in 1990.”

The Holmes family has figured prominently in Chelsea State Bank’s history. Bill’s great grandfather, Harmon S. Holmes, was one of the initial five directors of Kempf Commercial & Savings Bank founded in 1897.

His grandfather, Howard S. Holmes Sr., founder of Jiffy Mixes, served as a director of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Chelsea, which merged with the Kempf Bank in 1934 to form Chelsea State Bank.

Bill’s father, Howard S. Holmes, Jr., was a distinguished director of Chelsea State Bank for many, many years, as was his uncle Dudley Holmes.  Finally, cousin Dudley Holmes, has been an active member of the Chelsea State Bank Board since 1984.

A pilot, Holmes is a full-time captain with American Airlines. He is also Vice President of Chelsea Milling Company. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (BBA) as well as a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from the University of Michigan.

Holmes is involved in many community activities including the YMCA, St Joseph Hospital, Girls on the Run of Southeastern Michigan, Arbor Hospice, the University of Michigan Club Of Ann Arbor, and the Purple Rose Theatre. Holmes resides in Ann Arbor.

Holmes was elected to the CSB Bancorp, Inc. board for a 3-year term along with incumbent directors Kenneth Gietzen, David Schaible, and Marni Schmid.

Peter Flintoft and Kathleen Griffiths retired their positions on the board due to term limits. CSB Bancorp is a one-bank holding company and owns 100 percent of Chelsea State Bank.  The Boards of Directors for both entities are the same people.
