Chelsea Area Players Youth Theater proudly invites you to their far-out fall production of “A Super Groovy Night’s Dream,” a wildly funny, peace-and-love-filled spin on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream — now relocated to a 1960s high school where the cliques run wild and the love triangles are, like, totally trippy, man.
Performances are at the Washington Street Education Center, 500 Washington St., on Nov. 14 and 15 at 7 pm and Nov 16 at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door. Tickets are also available in advance online at chelseaareaplayers.org or at Chelsea Hometown Pharmacy.
With a cast of 46 outta-sight 3rd-8th graders, we’ve got everyone: Jocks scoring big, Science geeks mixing up magical mayhem, Hippies spreading peace, Drama kids… being dramatic, and the Popular crowd serving vintage cool.
When romance gets messy (and it does), the adults call in reinforcements, the drama club attempts to stage a play inside the play (so meta), and the science club accidentally unleashes some serious chaos. Then everyone gets locked in the school overnight. What could go wrong?
Spoiler alert: Everything goes wrong. And it’s hilarious.
Director Alex Moore notes “Parents and friends who have been to our last few junior productions might notice that we are doing another take on a Shakespeare play.” Moore does “love a good Shakespearean adaptation. Two years ago, we did… Romeo and Winifred, and the same playwright is behind this show… and careful listeners will even hear a reference to Romeo and Winifred.”
