Although most of the hobby barn judging at the 2015 Chelsea Community Fair takes place on Monday, some of the entries were judged on Sunday night — flowers, photography and some of the baked goods.
The 78th annual Chelsea Community Fair runs from Aug. 25-Aug. 29.
So, what are the judges looking for when it comes to cakes, cookies and breads? They say it’s all about the taste, the texture, how they look, and the creativity that’s put into the items.
So if you didn’t enter fair this year, take a close look at this year’s entries and get baking, the judges suggest. Find something you like to bake and enter it next year.

Plus, there are premiums for first through fourth place and some classes only had one entry, so once fair week is over, get in the kitchen and start trying out some recipes. You’ve got more than a year to perfect them.
And if you’re an adult, practice your cake decorating techniques and enter your cake in 2016 because there were no adult entries in the adult cake decorating category this year.
And for all you who like to take photos, pick your favorites and enter them in next year’s fair. The superintendents say that entries were up this year but there is always room for more. There were about 200 photographs entered.
This year’s judge said there are two rules in photography. One, if you like a photo, it’s a good photo, and all the other rules are recommendations.
