2023 Chelsea High School Top 10

Matt Blanton

Parents: Jeff and Jennifer Blanton

Matt was a four-year varsity basketball player. He was also a MHSAA Scholar Athlete nominee and All Academic SEC award recipient. Matt will be graduating with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Matt’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was winning the first basketball regional championship title in 23 years.

He will be attending and playing basketball for Grinnell College and planning to major in Economics.

 


Jasmine Gabriel-Menegay

Parents: Maegen Gabriel and Dean Menegay

Jasmine is the Editor in Chief for the CHS Bleu Print, head of costumes for CHS Theatre Guild and a member of CHS Arbor Club. Jasmine also is a member and secretary of the CHS A capella group Chelsea Gold, a member of National Honor Society and Link Crew. She has received the “Volunteer of the Year” from Chelsea District Library.

In addition, she is a volunteer for Washtenaw County Zero Waste and WSEC Intergenerational Garden. Jasmine has received her Academic letter every year and will be graduating with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Jasmine’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was the chance to experience the variety of options that CHS provided for students ranging from art to music to sports and other extracurricular activities. She felt that finding people who were interested and passionate about the same things was a turning point that made her high school career enjoyable and successful.

She plans to attend the University of Michigan to study English/Communications and ultimately, Library Science.


Logan Gossiaux

Parents: Duane and Pam Gossiaux

Logan has received the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program award. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Link Crew and Econ Club.

Logan was a member of the Freshman Boys Basketball team. In addition, he is a guitarist, bagpiper and vocalist for the rock ‘n roll band Wicked Cricket. Logan has received his academic letter every year and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

His favorite memory from Chelsea High School was being in Mr. Pedlow’s Civil War class his freshman year.

Logan plans to attend college to pursue a degree in Marketing and Computer Science.


Megan Hayduk

Parents: Don and Crystal Hayduk

Megan is a Link Crew leader, Arbor Club member, member and Treasurer of National Honor Society, soloist and student representative of Chelsea House Orchestra and student teacher at Beach Middle School Fiddle Club.

Megan is also a private violin instructor. She has received various music awards: 2019 and 2021 MSBOA All-State Orchestra, 2022 MSBOA Spring Honors Festival recognition for Outstanding Small ensemble for a piano trio and the 2022/2023 MSBOA Spring Honors Festival Honors Symphony Orchestra.

Megan has earned her academic letter all four years in academics, music and tennis. And, she was named to the SEC All-Academic team. She will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Her favorite memory from Chelsea High School was playing “Exploding Kittens” at the AP Calculus BC holiday party.

Megan plans to attend Hope College to study K-12 Spanish education and Secondary Mathematics education.


Bram Hartsuff

Parents: Bonnie Hartsuff, Gregg Hartsuff

Bram is an All-SEC, All-Region and All-State recipient in Cross Country.  He is also All-SEC and All-Region in Track. In addition, he was captain of the Swim team and trumpet section leader.

Bram is a member of the National Honor Society and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

His favorite memory at Chelsea High School was being back-to-back State Runner-ups in Cross Country.

Bram plans to study statistics at the University of Michigan.


Avery Landis

Parents: Brett Landis, Tonja Landis

Avery was a member of the soccer, lacrosse and swimming teams. He was also a member of the Personal Finance team, a Link leader and Brass Captain of the Marching Band.

In addition, Avery enjoys carving wood figurines in his free time. He is a National Honor Society member and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Avery’s favorite memory from Chelsea High School was going to the State Championship football game to play at Ford Field.

Avery plans to attend the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan.


Peter Mourad

Parents: Emily Kuo and Ron Mourad

Peter is a member of the Varsity Tennis team, Link Crew, Chelsea House Orchestra and a reporter for the Bleu Print school newspaper. He serves as President at CHS in the National Honor Society and Ping Pong Club.

In addition, he serves as a Volunteer for the following: Assistant Coach for Beach Middle School Tennis team, Classroom helper at the Chelsea First United Methodist Church and Pianist for Parables Worship service at CFUMC as well.

Peter has also received several awards: SEC All-Academic, the National Rural and Small Town Recognition Award, College Board recipient of the Good Citizen Award for CHS, Daughters of the American Revolution, All-State Award from Michigan High School Tennis Coaches Association, the MSBOA All-State Orchestra award and Outstanding Soloist Competition winner, MSBOA Finalist and Dexter Community Orchestra Youth Artist Concerto competition.

Chelsea High School has also nominated Peter for the “WXYZ Brightest and Best” for 2023.  Peter will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

His favorite memory at Chelsea High School was getting to go to States with the Varsity Tennis team all 4 years of his high school experience.

Peter will be attending the University of Michigan to pursue a Major in Natural Sciences and a Music Minor in piano.


Calista Sherwood

Parent: Veronika Slintak

Calista was a member of the Art Club, Dungeons & Dragons club and CHS Bowling team.

Most recently, she earned Academic All-SEC. She will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Her favorite memory from Chelsea High School was in her AP World class where they made a scale model of Las Vegas to represent French aristocracy.

Calista will be attending the University of Michigan.

 


Nicholas Spruce

Parents: Rachel Simons, Devon Simons

Nicholas is a member of Varsity Cross-Country and Varsity Track. He also was a member of Company C and Chelsea Robotics. Nicholas earned All-State Choir and most recently earned Academic All-SEC. He also is a mentor of Chelsea’s FIRST Tech Challenge team.

Nicholas is a member of the National Honor Society and will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

His favorite memory from Chelsea High School was the Company C retreat.

Nicholas plans to attend the University of Michigan.


Selah Strong

Parents: Luman and Tanya Strong

Selah has received her Academic letter each year of High School. She has danced at Ballet Chelsea for 14 years. In addition, Selah serves as a student representative and student faculty member at Ballet Chelsea. She also spends time working part time job at Kitty Face.

Selah will graduate with Summa Cum Laude distinction.

Her favorite memory from Chelsea high School was spending four years at the same school where her Dad works.

Selah will be dancing in Ballet 5:8’s trainee program to begin her career as a professional dancer in Chicago, Illinois.
