Chelsea girls and boys track and field wins Fowlerville Jack & Jill Relays

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Loren G. Thorburn for the information in this story.)

The 2019 Fowlerville Jack & Jill Relays was a new experience for our Chelsea boys and girls teams. The Fowlerville Relays is a co-ed relay and provided a unique experience for the teams to combine forces and have some fun together.

The relays went girl/boy/girl/boy. The top two relays earned medals.

Five teams competed: Chelsea, Fowlerville, Byron, Mt. Morris, and Atherton.

Chelsea won the meet with 144 points, while Byron was runner-up with 140 points.

“We evenly split athletes across the board and tried to get as many as possible to participate. We earned 1st or 2nd in every event (16 total events). This is a first where every athlete who participated earned a medal. A very unique experience in my coaching career,” said coach Loren Thorburn.

Individually, the Bulldogs had a number of athletes step up and perform season bests or personal records. In the 4x1600m event, two sophomore boys set-up in their 4×1600 event. Shawn Happy placed first with a time of 5:00.27 followed closely by Eric Reiber, who had a time of 5:01.10.

Senior Jamie Gorman threw a 6-foot plus personal record in the discus with a throw of 73′ 11″, while freshman Ava Woodard threw a season-best 26′ feet. (See results for specific times, splits, heights, and distances.)

Chelsea will compete against Dexter and Lincoln at Lincoln High School in a double dual meet on Tuesday and Thursday, April 18, the Bulldogs will host the Chelsea Relays.
