Washtenaw Whippets defeat Dexter 1-0

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Sharon Kegerreis for the information in this story and Mark Bogarin at the photo gallery at the end of the story.)

Last week, the Washtenaw Whippets field hockey team played three winning back-to-back-to-back games, beating Ann Arbor Greenhills, Mercy and Dexter.

The Whippets wrapped up the season in the number two spot in Division 1, behind only Ann Arbor Pioneer — last year’s state champion.

Other highlights of the Whippets’ season include seven shutouts and only four goals scored against the team. In 2012, the Whippets clinched the Division III championship after beating Dexter in the regular season for the top spot.

Coach Leslie Fry says, “The Whippets are a small, fast team. They play so tightly as a team — both on the attack and defensively.”

The Whippets host the second round of playoffs on Oct. 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Chelsea High School turf field. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Opportunities to play field hockey next year include a spring youth league for 3rd to 8th grade girls, and June Whip-It Camp, July field hockey camp and the 2014 season for 9th to 12th grade girls.

Coach Fry can be reached at [email protected] with any questions.
