Members of the Righter family will compete at regionals Friday and Saturday.

Students and staff from Chelsea ATA Martial Arts will head to Tecumseh High School on Nov. 8-9 to test and compete in a regional tournament.

There will also be a number of competitors from Sr. Master Sandoval’s seven schools competing as well. In fact, an estimated 800 competitors of all ages from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana will compete in various events on Saturday.

Among those testing during the regionals Friday night will be three members of the ATA school’s staff. Gabriel Walters will be testing for the rank of 2nd degree black belt recommended.

Brandy Righter, Emma Walters, and Noah Walters will be “mid-terming” toward their next rank of third degree black belt.

“As a family that trains and instructs the Chelsea school together, we are all very proud of our leaders and their accomplishments,” says Dan Righter, an owner of the martial arts studio.

Chelsea ATA Martial Arts is one of the seven schools under Chief Instructor Sr. Master Tomas Sandoval, 8th Degree Black Belt, managed and instructed by head instructor Dan Righter, 5th Degree Black Belt and his family, Brandy Righter, his wife and Emma, Noah, and Gabriel Walters, their children.

The studio is located at 420 N. Main St. behind the Chelsea Teddy Bear Factory and Chelsea Ale House.

As the world’s largest martial arts organization with more than a million members, the ATA (American Taekwondo Association) instructs students from ages 4 to adult in more than just kicking and punching.

The highly trained, certified instructors help create leaders in the community enforcing life skills such as respect, discipline, loyalty, integrity and honor, Righter says.
