5 new teachers, medical plan, pay to play fees on BOE agenda Monday

The Chelsea School Administration building

The Chelsea Board of Education meets Monday night, Aug. 13 and five new teachers are expected to be introduced. They are Melissa McIntosh, Cameron Groenewoud, Lindsey Heckler, Holly Reiser and Emily Myers.

In addition, it’s expected that the Board of Education will discuss its pay to play policy, operating millage options and the sinking fund, according to the agenda.

The board is also expected to go into closed session to discuss union negotiations.

Action items include the approval of the Chelsea House Orchestra field trip request to Silver Maples on Sept. 16; an amendment to the district’s medical plan, and a request from the Music Boosters request for contact information for all 5th through 12th grade music students for the 2012-2013 school year.

If approved by the board, the changes to the district’s medical plan include $12/$40 prescription coverage for all staff except the transportation union, which has elected to keep the $10/$40/$60 plan.

The second possible change involves the wellness benefit for the district. If approved by the board, district staff and their dependents have “the opportunity to use $250 a year for weight loss and/or smoking cession programs,” according to a memo from Teresa A. Zigman, executive director of finance.

Previously, “we have limited the reimbursement for these expenses to be requested within 60 days of the plan year end, which is June 30,” the memo states.

The Board of Education meets at 6 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center.
