Chelsea will soon have a new restaurant downtown that will offer breakfast, lunch, as well as coffee and ice cream. It’s called the Plaid Melon Cafe and will be located in the Clocktower Complex.

David Gallinat is the owner and chef for the Plaid Melon Cafe. He and his family live in Manchester and frequently visit Chelsea.

“I see the growing food culture in Chelsea, and when the existing restaurant space in the Clocktower Complex opened up, I knew it was the right time,” said Gallinat. “I saw a need for the kind of restaurant I wanted to have-some place comfortable with good food.”

The restaurant will be located at 312 North Main St., the location of the Gourmet Chocolate Cafe.
Gallinat has spent his entire adult life working in and around restaurants.

“It’s always been a dream to have a place of my own,” he said.

Regarding the cafe’s menu, Gallinat says, “I’m planning a pretty robust rotation of seasonal specials. As far as a theme goes, no gimmicks. I just want to make good, simple food and create a comfortable, laid back place to grab a bite to eat.”

The Plaid Melon Cafe is now hiring for positions including cooks, dishwashers, servers, barista and counter. Gallinat says he is hoping to open the cafe Sept. 15.

More information about the new restaurant, including its menu, will soon be available here.
