April 17-19: CAP Jr. presents ‘Shrek-The Musical, Jr.’

CAP Jr., the youth theater company of the Chelsea Area Players will present “Shrek – The Musical Jr.” on April 17, 18 at 7 p.m. and on April 19 at 3 p.m. at the Washington Street Education Center.

The family-friendly musical comedy is the story of an ogre Shrek who sets off to save a princess, Fiona from a dragon. The quest becomes a journey of discovery as Shrek must learn to believe in himself and learn to open his heart to others in order to succeed.

The “junior” version of Shrek – The Musical is a somewhat abbreviated version of the Broadway production that won twelve Drama Desk awards and eight Tony Awards including Best Musical. The Broadway show, in term was based on the Oscar-winning animated film.

Shelley Wheaton and Leigh Anne Beauchamp are co-producing the musical. Ken Beauchamp is the artistic and technical director, Alex Moore is the vocal director and Erin Lightfoot is the choreographer.

The cast includes more than 60 Chelsea area youth including Zack Handloser as Lord Farquaad, Carson Woollams as Donkey, Eve Beauchamp as Princess Fiona, Megan Hayduk as Young Fiona, Lacey Cooper as Teen Fiona, and Mitchell Ernst as Shrek.
