This Monday, April 18 will be the Chelsea Kiwanis Club’s annual First Responders Recognition Evening.  The Police Department, Fire Authority, and Huron Valley Ambulance are invited for dinner to be honored for their service to our community.

At last week’s Superinterclub meeting, Kiwanis had guests from clubs all over the county and our speaker was State Representative Gretchen Driskell. She spoke about her work on the communications committee to get Internet service to homes in rural areas. She cited the recently approved Lyndon Township plan to determine what it would take to get high speed Internet to the entire township.  She was confident the gravel mine issue would soon be resolved, and spoke about the State’s clean water issue. Along with covering her weekly schedule, she indicated her interest in running for Congress.

This Sunday afternoon, the club will pick up litter along both sides of I-94 between Freer and Pierce roads as our part of the Michigan Department of Transportation’s Adopt a Highway Program.  Chelsea Kiwanis has participated every year since the program’s inception in 1990.

Doing most of the work will be club members from our Kiwanis family – the Chelsea High School Key Club and University of Michigan Circle K Club. We appreciate those young people who have helped us for many years and value community service as a worthy effort.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis and click www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org for more information.
