April 24: Virtual Earth Day Yoga Event

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Susan Whitmarsh for the information in this story.)

Join us ONLINE to show gratitude to our home, Planet Earth, and celebrate 50 years of Earth Day on Friday, April 24, from 6:30-8 p.m.

The Earth is still in need of our care and attention so we’re taking it online for a virtual class. Please register via the link in the event details and you’ll be sent the class link.

Soon, there will be a donate button on our website that will enable you to contribute toward a fund which we will buy trees as soon as we are able, to be planted at the Chelsea High School.

Sue will lead us through a grounding practice, focusing on connecting to Mother Earth through the prithvi namaskar (Earth Salutation) sequence and a gentle slowflow. After our asana practice, we will pause in a calming meditation, and give thanks to the Earth, then lay down to rest in savasana.

After our practice, we will each raise a glass of something refreshing and share with everyone else attending what we are doing to celebrate Earth Day this year.

We were supposed to have a Yoga Clothing Swapsy afterward. So, continue to sort out and save your unwanted yoga/fitness clothing for a later date.

Practice non-attachment and reduce the load on the environment by clearing your closet of the work out gear that you no longer wear and give others a chance to snag ‘new-to-me’ stuff for free. Bring in your old yoga mats too.

Zero Waste Refreshments will be offered, courtesy of Serendipity Books. We’ll also discuss some ways in which we can each reduce, reuse and recycle clothing, and resist fast fashion, which adds enormously to global climate impact.

This will be a free community class, although a suggested donation of between $10-$20 is welcomed. Give what you can afford. All proceeds will go toward purchasing trees to plant at Chelsea High School’s Arbor project.

We also have a limited supply of Earth pins available at $3 each plus $2 shipping – see www.breatheyogachelsea.com for details.

This event is being held in conjunction with Chelsea’s Zero Waste Coalition.
