(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)
Farmers are the focus for the Monday Chelsea Kiwanis meeting. It’s our annual Farmers Recognition Dinner to salute area producers for providing food for our tables.
Our speaker will be from Huron Valley Ambulance. We will hear about the day to day operations and the history of this lifesaving company.
On March 28, Kiwanis heard from Stephanie Willette, manager of the farmers markets in Chelsea. She presented the challenges farmers face today, like the huge investment needed to get started in the spring with livestock and seeds in an already very competitive business. The Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs help out by providing money at the beginning, and the farmer’s markets provide income during the season, along with wholesalers, stores, and restaurants.
The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy-Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.
Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to learn about Kiwanis and click www.kiwanisclubofchelsea.org for more information.
